A Walk in the Park

by Erin Williams on January 13, 2012

Today I thought I’d take you for a walk through my neighborhood

where the agave’s are shooting out their elegant arches

the jade plants (money plants my daughter calls them) are covered in small white blossoms

the aloes are regally blossoming

here we go down eucalyptus lined lanes

past zen gardens

with interesting rocks

and, yes, delicate roses bloom here in january

all things soft grow here in this gentle place

these are the natives brightly glowing

architectural landscapes

where mermaids hang out

after a few blocks we’ve entered the Douglas Family Preserve on the mesa bluffs. The Michael Douglas family helped secure this land to keep it safe from development.

It is a doggie fest here no matter what time of day you come. We Santa Barbarans LOVE our dogs

It’s a social gathering for the neighborhood dogs and their human companions

lots of frolicking

sniffing, meeting and greeting

this is Kosmo and Georgie- our babies

snags are left for the wildlife

There is a poetic feel to this park that I adore

here is the lookout at the far end of Hendry’s beach or Arroyo Burro as it is now called

the trail loops back around with this picturesque view of the mountains, our protection

that is Hope Ranch on the other side. I have some paintings hanging in the grand homes over there.

today I am in such a state of flow

feeling a real sense of peace with what is

and I’m appreciating that with age I’ve gotten better at non-attachment and non-grasping

I feel an affinity with these primeval bird of paradise

these are my thoughts on today’s walk- loving acceptance of what is

as I head back home to my magical life.

Thank you Santa Barbara for your beauty. Thank you Kosmo and Georgie for taking me for my daily walk.  Thank you Michael Douglas for preserving our neighborhood wild area.

It’s been magical taking a walk with you through an absolutely heavenly looking place, your Santa Barbara. If I did not live in Boulder I suspect I too could be exceedingly happy just where you are. Everything about you, your newly fixed up house, your paintings, your walks and gardens, are just wonderful. I am wondering if you share all these events with your mom. I think you are so very special. Love, Mila

Hi Mila, Thank you so much for your beautiful comment. Yes, I know you would love it here and if you ever get a chance to visit we have a guest room waiting for you in our home. I have a wonderful partner and life is very good. I’m not sure how often my Mom reads my blog- she’s only mentioned it a couple of times. At any rate, I think you are very special also and remember your lovely cooking well. Glad to reconnect with you here! Love, Erin
